I am not trying to split the community, I am not trying to start a rival to SA:MP, and one important side point: I am not stealing anyone's code. You all think the cat is out of the bag because of one poorly worded post missing all context of the conversation it was a part of. You got a peek in to the bag and think the whole thing is stupid, which is understandable given the lack of information. I was trying to give the important points without revealing too many details, unfortunately that backfired because now you only have half a story from which to draw conclusions.

So let's put it all out there.

I am not trying to split the community. However, someone IS trying to destroy it - they have hoarded information, withheld long sought updates, threatened to delete the whole forums (last week), and bans anyone who says that maybe that's not great. This person has already split the community - releasing two separate parallel versions of the mod, then wondering why uptake on one was not as all-encommpasing as originally envisioned. For over a year people have asked for 0.3.7 and 0.3dl to be merged, while he just sat there and wondered if there was actually anyone that wanted it. He has said that he believes the community is dying, SA:MP is dying, and only has a year or two left; and is content to just watch it happen. Some of us disagree and have tried to convince him to do something - either carry on or pass on the reigns. The community shrinking is probably inevitable, but it will only die if not supported - and that's what happening right now.

There is an unofficial discord, where yes people sometimes have fun and joke around with each other. But it wasn't founded as a place for rebellion. It came in to being because people liked SA:MP, and people use Discord, thus the community naturally wanted to combine both. There's an unofficial forums, Kalcor himself has previously said if you don't like these ones, make your own, but now bans those that do. However neither the forums nor the discord are run by me. They are simply a result of the official areas failing to move forward. That's not splitting, that's progressing.
I am not trying to start a rival to SA:MP. Two of the words there are wrong "start", and "rival". I'm not "starting" anything, I was trying to gauge further interest in a project well under way. These are the commits from just the last year:

There's nothing new about this, so what is this? And why is it not a rival?
I did once leave SA:MP, yes, but that was 6 years ago - get over it!

I am not betraying SA:MP, and I am not betraying Kalcor - he is the one betraying SA:MP, but most people are unable to separate the two. Yes, he founded it, but that doesn't make it his. Hundreds of other people have spent countless hours/days/weeks/YEARS working on this, making it what it is today, but just because Kalcor has sole access to one little part - the server code, he believes he is the most important part and can dictate where it goes and when it stops. In the beginning yes, he did most of the work, but ask yourself who you honestly believe has done more for this mod in the last few years - Kalcor or any one of these people:

We don't want to usurp him, we don't want to belittle him or his contributions. He founded this mod, he got people involved, but all those other people helped him bring it to where it is today, and it is those people - the community, who are being repressed and ignored. I've tried to act as a mediator, brining Kalcor's views to people, and the community's views to him, and have received endless flak from both sides for it. I've also tried repeatedly to have Kalcor pass running/updating the mod on to someone else (not necessarily me, but there's no-one else stepping up). What were the responses?

He doesn't believe I'm capable of adding major new features. Of course he isn't adding any either, and actually doesn't believe there are any to be added, so why would that matter?
He wanted a plan. My main priorities were to fix bugs, improve the obvious gaps in the API, and create a better platform for other languages - i.e. a proper C/plugin API. Not even difficult tasks and ones I've more than shown I'm capable of. But apparently that doesn't qualify as a plan.
In his words exactly "they don't deserve it". That's what he thinks of this community that apparently I am the one trying to split up, and the idea of someone trying to carry it on.

No-one minds if he wants to quit, that's blatantly obvious and perfectly natural. We object to him taking everything else down with him. This is a community - it is a great community with a lot of very good long-time friends, centered around a close-source mod with a paranoid controlling leader. We want to move this center, that's all. We don't want to destroy SA:MP, we don't want to split the community (this got found out because I was trying to involve the long ignored Russian community, thus bring back in people already split off), we want to ensure its continuation - because Kalcor doesn't.

So I give you:

That's the project (and domain, the burger-shot forums were just a temporary until we got the real one up, which hasn't happened yet). A team of TWENTY-TWO of the top people from San Andreas Multiplayer - server owners, scripters, testers, and other community leaders working together to recreate the whole thing from the ground up. Making a new forum is easy; the thing that always cemented Kalcor's control was his sole access to the mod source. There is a leaked version, but from the start I made it absolutely clear that we would take the high road in this regard and flat out refuse to use that in any way what so ever. So we have been reimplementing the whole thing from scratch. We originally wanted to release a full 1.0 version out of the blue, with that announcement being the first anyone heard of it, but that's not going to happen now. But it isn't too far off.

There have been forks, but they had two major problems: 1) They used the stolen code, something we don't, and 2) They were trying to reinvent the wheel, new scripting languages, totally different features, etc. We are making this fully backwards-compatible. You could switch your server over to ours, running the same script, and your players wouldn't even notice. There are of course plans for new features and improvements over time, but for now the focus is on backwards-compatibility, stability, and bug fixes (fixes we as a community have already done before because Kalcor wouldn't).

I tried very hard for over a year to work WITH Kalcor on improving SA:MP, I just happened to have a backup plan. So you can stick with him if you believe his approach is about to change and suddenly updates will happen (and if this debacle forces that, then we actually succeeded in the original goal). Or you can stick with the majority of the community, who know there is a problem and want to fix it - those that have been there for you through all this, helping, teaching, hosting, and leading.

It's up to you to decide who you think has betrayed SA:MP... It is taking me a while to sort through them though, so if I miss you out I sincerely apologise!

By far the most common question is, how can I help? So I'm going to address this here:

1) Keep pushing the message. Tell anyone and everyone. Get your favourite server owners in here, get your friends and clans on board. The biggest danger is that while we are riding high right now things will calm down and return to the old status-quo. Thus while we sort through everything and get organised we need to keep that pressure up.

2) Very similar to the above - use these forums. Post pictures of your cats (post pictures of your dogs too I guess, if you're in to that sort of thing), ask scripting questions, re-release your scripts and includes, post screenshots and videos (you can even use you(them)tube). Basically normalise using these forums for anything you used the official SA:MP forums for before. But most importantly - post pictures of your cats!

3) Don't insult anyone. We may have issues with the way things had been run before, but that doesn't mean we go after the people themselves.

4) We need a list of SA:MP bugs, a nice thorough one. Start compiling them, or how will we know if we've fixed them? I'll get my bugtracker up (or that's something else someone could work on - fiixing this bugzilla error:

7) I'm bad at graphics. We have some already, but more for promotion would be good.

8) Small modes. The examples that get bundled with a server. We need our own ones of those.

I’ve been observing the SA-MP/open.mp scene for a long time, and one thing always strikes me: we are in 2026, but 99% of servers are still managing player finances like it’s 2012.
If your server still relies on a simple PlayerInfo[playerid][pMoney] += value and a basic SQL UPDATE, I have some bad news: Your economy is fragile, untrustworthy, and probably already compromised.
The Problem: The "Flat Value" Trap
Most developers treat money as a static state. If a hacker modifies a memory address or a database row is corrupted during a crash, the "truth" is lost forever. You have no way to prove where that money came from or if it should even be there.
The Solution: High-Precision Event Sourcing (The Nexus Approach)
In my latest project, I decided to abandon the "static money" concept and moved to a Quantum Ledger System based on Event Sourcing and Cryptographic Chaining. Here is how a serious financial core should work:
1. Millisecond Precision (Quantum Alignment)
In a high-traffic server, gettime() is not enough. Multiple transactions can happen in the same second. By using a dual-timestamp (Seconds + Milliseconds), every transaction is uniquely aligned in time. This prevents collisions and ensures the absolute order of events.
2. The Immutable Hash Chain (Blockchain Logic)
Instead of just saving a log, every transaction in my system is linked to the previous one using a Raw SHA-256 Hash.
Each "block" contains:
The current transaction data.
The balance snapshot.
The hash of the previous transaction.
If a single byte is changed in the database by an external tool or a rogue admin, the entire chain "breaks" mathematically. The next transaction will fail the integrity check, and the system can immediately flag the fraud. It’s impossible to "spawn" money without breaking the math.
3. ACID Persistence & Rolling Genesis
To ensure performance, the system uses Atomic Transactions (ACID). Either the entire batch is saved perfectly, or nothing is. To prevent the database from bloating over the years, I implemented a Rolling Genesis (Pruning) system: the server maintains a "Hot Ledger" for the last 3 months and archives the rest into Cold Storage, creating a "Synthetic Genesis Block" to keep the chain's integrity intact.
Why does this matter?
If you want to run a professional server with a real, stable economy—especially if it involves complex systems or high stakes—you cannot afford "approximate" finances. You need a system that is self-auditing.
I’m not sharing the source code because I believe every developer should challenge themselves to build their own security layers, but I wanted to share the concept. It’s time we stop being "scripters" and start being software engineers.

I'd like to start of by saying that I am extremely new to this forum (first post) and to open.mp as a whole. It's been quite a while now since I was playing / developing on SA:MP and thought I'd give Open.MP a go considering it's popularity and similarity as SA:MP is something I dearly miss. Concidering I am new, I haven't managed to scour the entire forum for any posts similar or asking the same sort of questions, so if there is already a discussion about this topic, please let me know.

Being the fool I am, I book an M2 Apple silicon macbook without really looking into the differences between the intel and apple silicon chips. Long story short, I've got this macbook sitting around not really doing much apart from the odd small project which doesn't see the light of day often. Ideally, I'd like to start using it more for development across a range of different projects but limited to my hardware, this has become quite a challenge.

Now, given that Open.MP is open source, I've been looking into the feasibility of rebuilding the sourcecode to allow development on Mac. I know that this is entirely pointless as I could just develop on a PC / Linux or even use a VM however, I'm just a difficult human being that likes to do things that do not make any sense. While I am not the best at this sort of stuff, I have successfully managed to build this using the x86_64 architecture (which great difficulty). Admittedly, it did require a lot of effort, involving a fair bit of messing around in different environments etc but it's now working.

Although due to time, I haven't managed to get a server running locally yet however, it makes me wonder why this project hasn't been released as an x86_64 architecture already. It seems odd to me only to release the 32 bit version when it's fairly simple (in certain environments) and with 32 bit systems being phased out, sure it is prudent to start this earlier than later? With all of that being said, I am curious why the source code has been compiled this way? Is it limitations with GTA:SA or simply a development design? The development of SAMP

As soon as San Andreas came out for PC, the development of SAMP began. At first there was a lot of controversy. The developers announced that SAMP would avoid being a multiplayer experience full of Deathmatch, Roleplays and different play styles like VCMP was and would have a mode . Cooperation in which you could play with five friends, with six slots on each server. This idea was received poorly by the community and the GTANet forums were filled with hate towards the development team's decision.

About three months after this decision, Kyeman (Kalcor at the time), the head of the team, decided to abandon the project in the middle of the Cooperation mode debate, leaving all the work and code to the second in command, spooky, who changed the project name to GTA:Multiplayer.

Within about a month, Kyeman returned and decided to help out on the project, at this point the Co-op mode idea was completely scrapped and the project was renamed to SAMP (San Andreas Multiplayer).

The versions of SAMP

I am not going to talk about all versions of SAMP, rather I will focus on 0.3.7, its patches and the most important one. It was October 18, 2019 and Kalcor had declared that he had abandoned SAMP completely, at that time the latest version was 0.3.7-R4, according to Kalcor, he never moved towards 0.4 because he had the belief that four was a symbol of bad luck, he called his version rating style "kalver", the R meant a small change, a security patch, and the change in number, for example 0.2 to 0.3 meant a major update . In any case, although Kalcor abandoned the project in 2019, it was not until November 2022 that he released a new security patch, patch 0.3.7-R5. Kalcor's words. "There is an exploit in the client. It is a critical RCE vulnerability that allows server owners to execute unauthorized code on players' PCs" clarifying that the -R versions contained security patches and bug fixes, finally advising to the community. "Always use the latest version"

1. Who am I?
As I said, a SAMP veteran. You can call me Vari.
I am 28 years old and I have 14 years in programming. I started back in 2010 with Pawn and, today, I'm a professional. I work with Javascript (React.js and Node.js) mainly. I also do some graphic design with Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma and I work a bit w Premiere Pro.
One of my dreams was always to have a great SAMP Roleplay community, both spanish/english speaken (two cloned servers).

2. Why this project?
It all started modding the original GTA SA with around 20 mods, including V Graphics. This was an amazing experience for me, and I thought that we could enjoy these graphics in SAMP... sad notice is that we can't. We could only create a client-installer to install DirectX 2.0 and that's it I guess.
Apart from graphics, I think this project as a big one, a serious one, like all my projects. I started thinking on this cause I saw plenty of players playing last night, both in Spanish and English servers... so I say to myself: why not? I have all the tools needed; knowledge, time (not too much) and money. I only need a team. But wait, very good news are at the end of this tunnel.
My idea is to have an active community in both cloned servers (english/spanish). I want to be able to get into the server at anytime and see, at least, 50-60 people connected and going around LS. I think the idea is not too crazy :) there are a lot of people waiting for a good server!

3. Good and bad things
One of the most important things today is that I don't have too much time. I mean, time to spend programming for SAMP, or moderating forums/communities. For this problem I have one solution and this is: we need a team. And I'm going to start talking as us, cause we need to start feeling the sense of community here, where each one of us create the necessary atmosphere to play and aport a bit of something. Players, moderators, mappers, scripters, designers. These maybe are the bad things, but still, hold on, I have the big power-bomb despite being alone for now.
The biggest good thing in all of these is that I have all the job done. I don't have time today, but I had it twelve years ago when I created Zonerol.net, one of the most interesting projects of my life. And I have it right now, and it works. With this, we have 80-85% of the IG job done.

4. Zonerol Gamemode
Zonerol was big part of my life, despite it lived for less than a year. I learned how to program thank to this, and thank to that I have a very good life today.
Zonerol is a big RP project, did it from scratch, from an empty file, by two young boys called Vari (I) and Bruno (one of my best friends).
Zonerol may have some bug as all systems in the world, but we loved to do fine-tunning and be perfectionist in everything, so I can assure you that Zonerol is more than enough for everyone who want to spend a good time roleplaying with friends. The job did by us is incredible and full of things to start playing soon!

5. New ways of roleplaying / Rethink the roleplay
I think that we all need to have a refresh of what roleplaying is in SAMP today, or at least what we want to do with this project. Thing is that more than ten years have passed and everything change through time. Is indispensable to rethink the wheel a little bit here. Why? cause we all want to have fun quickly IG, and don't waste time doing stupid things. Maybe some of us don't have too much time to play every week, so we want to assure you that you will have fun every time you get into the server, even if it's your first time, or if you are the leader of LCN.
One thing that I can say and it comes to my mind right now is: forums are very nice (I love them) but we can't force the players to enroll a forum or a web-panel to postulate to factions or that kind of things... as I said before, we want to spend time having fun quickly, and forums are nice but will NOT be mandatory for important processes like the one I said (enroll a faction). Of course, the leader of each faction will have a bit more of responsibility over his board / his faction members. Server will be all text based, we could have Discord rooms to keep us AFK / Playing, but IG will be text 100%.

6. Open source or private?
What is better? Do we need to keep the gamemode private and create a team, or do we need to upload it to GitHub and create a community, where a principal team will approve / decline Pull Requests? Let me know your thoughts! In anycase, we need to create a serious team.

7. Zonerol (Big description)
And the big fish is here, Zonerol. A gamemode based in LS mainly.
Zonerol is a very complete gamemode, full of things to see and enjoy. You can start watching this album full of screenshots, mostly headquarters and maps.
But you have it everything: a system to create accounts IG (and they will be created in a MySQL database), an introduction tutorial, not too long but a bit boring, where it explains quickly some concepts. You can go to LSPD and you will be able to rent a bike and start your journey quickly. We inject some money in the server as start-point and money evolves IG alone as players do transactions, a very interesting system (but old and probably useless today). You will see a lot of amazing maps and systems in the screenshots above.

Factions in this gamemode are 12:
Government, LSPD, Hospital, Taxi/Buses, Bodyguards, Car/Mechanical Workshop, Hot Wheels, CNN (Journalists), LCN, YKZ, Traffickers, Licenses Center. I think some of them are useless, we need an important update here.
.Government is a bit useless I guess.
.LSPD is amazing, it has an incredible interior mapping (watch the album!) and plenty of commands to play!
.Hospital is a faction with not too much sense but I have in mind a nice rework to make it enjoyable! Read the next point.
.Taxi/Buses is another faction highly useless if we stop and re-think the way players mostly travels the entire map; they always drive themselves. Some cases, not too much, we need a taxi at the beggining problably, why not to make it a job instead? good idea! if there are no taxis available, we can always rent a bike.
.Bodyguards are a good faction, with a very nice map and commands.
.Car/Mechcanics are one of the best factions, they always have work in a server where the vehicle damage is saved. Also, they sells tools to steal cars. We can rework this faction a little bit to add more interesting things around steal / buy / sell cars illegaly through this faction and Hot Wheels.
.Hot Wheels are the one that sells cars in Grotti mainly, they can also steal cars (member level 0, thief) and resell them legally. A very good faction that can work along Car/Mechanics and create very good roles between illegal / legal factions.
.CNN another incredible faction, full of stuff to do reports and play in group! Their job is so useful for the life of the game, cause they are always in the most important scenario covering the most important ropleplays for all the players in the server. They can do radio globally, and also global reports in vans and helicopters. CNN is fuc**** insane!!
.LCN is of course one of the best factions, but is not too useful since they don't have an specific role to cover IG. Maybe they could work with Traffickers to sell guns and drugs, that will be a good deal but we need to rework a little bit the factions and the guns/drugs system. Don't remember well if we had black market or something else. They are located close to Grotti, in the hills.
.YKZ same as before but they are in the opposite part of the map (close to Grove Street over the route to Las Venturas)
.Traffikers they are able to create guns based on materials created before, and cultivate / harvest marihuana (and create other drugs I guess) to sell it later. I don't remember what drugs makes to the player IG (apart from the crazy camera) but I have an interesting rework for these all. See next point.
. License Center a nice faction but useless today, we can rework this to create a mini-game to obtain all the licenses needed. We have licenses for: cars, boats, guns and I think for fishing.

Jobs in this gamemode are 5:
Thief, Street Sweeper, Fisher, Truck Driver and Boxer.
.Thief: Don't remember but I think you can get close to someone and steal money from it from time to time to not abuse this functionality.
.Street Sweeper: You need to clean the city in some checkpoints, its a bit boring since they are not too much but its OK to start.
.Fisher: Don't remember but I think you can fish and sell the fishes in some stores around LS.
.Truck Driver: Don't remember at all lol
.Boxer: ?? xD

Some interesting stuff:
.Car system: I know you can buy / sell cars trough Hot Wheels faction, but you can also use your car as storage to store weapons, armor, drugs and I think even more than that. If I remember well, cars have 5 slots. Cars are loaded from MySQL, so I don't have a way to show this feature right now since I don't setted up the database the time that I took the screenshots (during pandemic). We'll need to review and check the whole system and make all the necessary tests (like add/remove cars and so on, we had always issues with IDs and so on I remember xD). Cars for buy / sell are loaded from MySQL BEFORE (idk) static vehicles (like faction vehicles) to not alter IDs and stuff I guess. Of course you can close/open your car, tunning it in the Car workshop I guess (but I don't remember if changes made to the car are saved in SQL after a server restart), Refuel the vehicle in Gas Stations and more (like steal them and sell it to Hot Wheels with certain tools). A very nice and complete system. This is extended to boats.
.On-sell property system: One of the best, if not the biggest / best one. We loaded the houses through MySQL as well and they have coords for the external doors, internal doors, storage like the vehicles (for weapons, fishes, drugs, etc) and I think you can also cook your fishes to eat it and restore life. You can also rent the house to others BUT I don't remember well about this feature lol. We'll need to review this system as well in deep and make necessary changes, we'll also need to create a quick command like /createonsellproperty to create houses IG quickly in each door lol. Houses has the ability to have a garage as well, to park the car inside.
.On-sell business system: Same as before but to have business, a good one but I think we need to rework it to generate a system that can create profits eventually and a more interesting engagement. I think mafia can extort these businesses.
.Guns system: you can carry your weapon in your back, throw it to the floor and take it again, and more.
.More systems like drug system, cellphone (calls and sms), etc.
I still need to set up the server again and make an in-deep walkthrough through it. This time with all the MySQL stuff running (cars, boats, houses and businesses)
.Language system: Learn chinese, italian, portuguese and german, to speak in private in front of others. This system needs a fresh rework in LS (I think university is located in San Fierro)

8. What we need to do: corrections and systems
.Section under development (I'm writing it, be patient!)

Server is full spanish (100%) so we need to copy the gamemode and translate everything to english, but that is not hard to do, it only takes time.
First of all, we need to put old Zonerol in GitHub as v1, running OK with everything and adapted to OpenMP.
I have this idea of rethink the roleplay in mind and this comes with a lot of useful ideas. Mainly, the idea to make that everything in the game has to have a sense. If not, we are playing for "nothing". For example, take drugs in this server is useless if I remember well, because you only got a crazy camera and colours for a while. But... what if drugs can "heal" you? like 5 grams of marihuana for 100% of health. This makes the roleplaying so much interesting since you will want to carry drugs to heal yourself sometimes (roleplaying it, of course, not taking marihuana in the middle of gun shots lol).
This way, other stuff can be related to this idea of playing around the player life. For example, what if you can eat a burguer for 5$ and that heals you 5%? what if I take a combo for 15-20 usd and that heals me 15-20%? Sounds interesting... at first sight at least.

9. What can I do?
Nowadays, as I said, I don't have too much time. But as you can see, I can put almost 80% of the server code working and adapted to OpenMP. Apart from that, I can put some money to keep the server hosted on AWS and a website/forum. I also know how to administrate the forum and how to make graphic design so I can spend some time over that, but that's it. I'll need a lead scripter and, probably, one or two helpers plus. I can take the lead deciding with the lead scripter which reworks to do and maybe giving a hand to them. I'll also need designers, at least one or two. Same for mappers, but we can have 0 mappers for now, thank God we have a lot of mapping from old times, did it by myself and the community.
I can't spend time programming for this project, that's the bad one, but I did it ten years ago and thank to that we have an exclusive gamemode never released to the community to start playing very soon!! So we only need to create a teams and put hands on!

38:T236c,I visit this forum occasionally (more often recently) but a quiet forum is a lonely place and it can be discouraging so I thought i would make a new topic to express my appreciation and thanks for this project and what the Open.MP team are doing - because the work you're doing is important and many of us are watching and waiting. Perhaps all the activity is on Discord or your social media platforms but I like message boards so I'm going to make this topic and express my thoughts the old fashioned way on a forum, the original gangster. So I'm here to write about my favourite PC game - yes it's just a game but GTA: San Andreas is special and for many of us it was part of our childhood. But for me I also associate SA:MP with some of the best years of my life. Looking back into the past I can honestly say that no other game or online multiplayer experience compares to the great times I had back then. And that's what I would like to write about here (and probably much more) so prepare yourselves for a really long read, sorry it's just my style.

I come here to check for new information and to maintain some connection to a SA:MP community and I know the feeling of seeing a message board that doesn't have much activity as I'm an administrator of another forum that's been abandoned except for a couple of ocassional visitors. I registered here recently and this is my first submission but I bought GTA San Andreas in 2007 and I've been involved in SA:MP since 2008 so I'm a veteran.

But before I continue I just wanted to say thank you to the Open.MP team and for all your own contributions to this project. I recently returned to SA:MP so I'm not familiar with all your names but I remember Y_Less from the early days obviously, he's like the celebrity rock star of SA:MP and I'm amazed by the Open.MP team's programming knowledge it's well beyond my own capabilities. I don't really understand most of what you discuss when it regards programming but I've been coding (or scripting as we used to say) since 2009 and I'm still doing it now when I can in the evenings and when I'm not working in a job that I sometimes think is just an inconvenient distraction - but it pays and I need the money.

I'm probably older than most people still doing things with SA:MP today and was likely to be older than most players when I started back in 2007. It's a gaming experience that pulls you back and the nostalgia doesn't diminish as the years pass by. I think it's the potential of SA:MP/Open.MP that is so interesting and basically it's just a great game and even more when you understand what can be done with some programming knowledge. I associate the world of San Andreas (and Los Santos in particular) with many special memories and better times in my life.

GTA: San Andreas is a world in which you can step back into and forget about your worries and that's a good thing to do sometimes. Many years ago I would play SA:MP for so long into the night that I would begin to imagine it was real life. What I mean by that is that, even now, I can almost imagine Los Santos as a location that exists somewhere because I have recollections of moments in so many places. I can drive along streets of Los Santos and still remember what happened there, right there under that golden sunshine where my radio played those great songs with the echos of gun battles going on around me. Or standing on a hill near Mount Chilliad, that was where I once ran with others pretending we were being chased by a bear, but we escaped the beast and had to wait for another friend to come and pick us up "bring a four door car!" we'd shout. Or witnessing a huge gathering of players waiting for a bus ride to Las Venturas, we all get on and have an adventure. Even at obscure and remote places things happened that I still smile about now, recollections return to mind of a funny event on a street corner or of meeting someone in a shop that I would help that couldn't type English well in chat, he became a regular player and improved his language skills but like so many other players they're all gone now.

Moving from the single player experience to playing online was really exciting, honestly I still remember the feeling of connecting to a server for the first time. The sense of so much potential and adventure was incredible, sharing experiences together with real people. For months I had been playing the single player missions alone and to experience the same cities and familiar locations with actual players was really strange. One of the first servers I started playing on regularly was a role playing server with freeroam aspects. Even now around 15 years later I still code and develop a server swith the same kind of social and economic system. I’ve hosted many servers and managed teams, administrated a couple of forums too but like many veterans from the early days, life has a way of eventually taking your attention away. Perhaps some of us wanted to move on and do something else, some of us needed to grow up or take a break, start a job or make a family. Yet I often regret leaving SA:MP and I'm missed it since to be honest. As I mentioned earlier when I began playing I was probably older than most players but I’ve now reached my forties, are there many of us here that old? I could type up many paragraphs (and have in the past on other forums) about my memories and experiences on San Andreas Multiplayer but I will say that after all that time I still can’t compare the depth and nostalgia of SA-MP to any other games, the game occupied a special time in my earlier life that I really miss.

What frustrates me most now is that I can’t devote as much time as I would like to programming and playing on SA-MP but I do try to do something regular that contributes to my own server project. One night I might spend time making an object map or another evening I may work on trying to fix a mission that isn’t working correctly, another day could be spent typing up /help guidance into dialog boxes or setting up some nice scenes with interpolating cameras. Often I think about ideas before sleep and I can honestly say I’ve kept myself awake going over the possibilities of new features but that’s what this game does for me, it still interests me all these years later. I hope some of you can relate to the fascination and attraction of SA-MP and it’s great that Open.MP exists to provide the potential for life to return and continue across San Andreas for many thousands of players.

I first started managing a server back in 2009 (with average players being around 30 and peaking at 100) then I ‘retired’ in 2011. Last year I opened a small server for a short time, a project which I had worked on for many years. I could only keep the server online for about 2 weeks and I never got more than 10 players really but the experience was useful for me in seeing how SA-MP had changed and in some unfortunate ways how it hadn’t changed. But I realised that my server was never going to be online for long. Three reasons really, the first was I couldn’t find anyone else to help manage and moderate the server - it's difficult to find friends that you can trust and that can give enough time online. And those you know that could do the job well are usually too busy with other games or their own lives. Secondly I encountered problems with cheaters (as usual) and finally I was uncomfortable paying so much money for a ‘hosted tab’ listed server - even with the average financial resources of an adult I feel it’s too much to pay and that servers regardless of standards should be able to get online at minimal or no cost (beyond hosting) which is why I’m greatly encouraged by Open Multiplayer, it’s a great project with a nice team of people, many of whom have talent and ability far beyond my capabilities.

So I will end my introduction soon and just say a few more things. As well as introducing me to lots of great music because of listening to the radio stations of GTA, the game itself (and the friends I made playing it) helped and inspired me to create digital art which I intend to submit here on the forum. But in conclusion I still miss those days of moderating message boards, creating graphics, programming in pawn and managing servers; it was an amazing combination of interests to experience during the best days of SA-MP. I wish for such great days to return with Open.MP - thanks for reading.

I'm using JernejL's map editor, but as I currently only have a notebook I'm facing the same problem as other users: https://github.com/JernejL/samp-map-editor/issues/8\n

I really like this editor, but it is not optimized for notebooks, much less for Windows 11, because when I was using Windows 10 the problem was just selecting objects with the mouse, now it gives an error of "Access Violation at Address.. ." after several attempts to select the object.\n

GTA SA Defintive edition is the future, its based on the same engine as fortnite and people would pay money to play this online in years from now. Open MP is the future and can save people.\n

I have a problem when changing the color of an object, it doesn't happen with everyone.\n

I find Vice City more appealing and is probably better suited for smaller servers because the map is also smaller. \n

I'm more interested in PAWN than Squirrel and SAMP/OpenMP also offers more options than VCMP.\n

I recently bought a laptop and I wanted to play SA-MP but when I install the programme I had numerous problems. My laptop is window 11 and it has more than enough specs to run the game. I used to play on a window 10 laptop and I had no problem. Bare in mind this is the same copy of the game I had on my window 10 laptop.

I came around this open.mp project and was intrigued, I see there's some activity and 29k players daily, most of them are ofc playing on the russian servers. \n

So my question is - is it worth starting a roleplay server nowdays? I've a gm lying on my GitHub for years and it's ready to run.\n

When talking about is it worth it or not, I don't mean money aspects. Just if there's a chance to still build a stable community that keeps enjoying the game. \n
